Patrick Wolff is a financial analyst, father, and life-long Democrat with years of insurance experience. He’s running for California Insurance Commissioner to bring fairness, transparency, and reform to our broken insurance system.

Fixing Insurance.
Putting People First.
“My mission is to make California’s insurance markets work for the people of California. I will not take campaign contributions from insurance companies, and I will not run for any other public office after being Insurance Commissioner.”
Patrick is running for California Insurance Commissioner because he believes Californians deserve an insurance system that is fair, efficient, transparent, and puts consumers first. His deep understanding of the insurance markets, paired with his real-world business and leadership experience, makes him uniquely equipped to serve as California’s next Insurance Commissioner. Patrick is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) who has analyzed companies like Berkshire Hathaway and other publicly traded insurers for years, which has helped provide a broad view of the sector from both inside and out.
Patrick understands the critical importance of being completely independent from the insurance industry. He has pledged not to accept campaign contributions from insurance companies and not to run for any other political office after being Insurance Commissioner. His sole focus is on fixing our insurance market and doing the job of Insurance Commissioner.
A Lifetime of Leadership
and Problem Solving.
Patrick began his business career as a management consultant in Boston, advising Fortune 500 companies before moving to Silicon Valley to work in the startup world. He later joined Capital One, where he led the project to build a home and auto insurance brokerage. Patrick spent four years focused exclusively on the insurance space, where he gained firsthand knowledge of how the industry operates. He later became a Managing Director at a leading hedge fund, and eventually launched his own firm, Grandmaster Capital Management. Today, Patrick is an independent investor and is a Managing Member of BPW Capital Holding, where he and his business partner make private investments in real estate.
Patrick Wolff has spent his life solving complex challenges. He grew up in Massachusetts where he learned how to play chess from his father when he was 5 years old. Patrick fell in love with the game, and eventually became two-time U.S. Chess Champion and a chess grandmaster. After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard University, Patrick built a career in business and finance marked by strategic thinking, leadership, and a hands-on approach to complex problem-solving.
